  • Music Television?

I'm sick with a weird June cold, lying on the couch feeling sorry for myself, watching one of the three Interventions lined up on my DVR, realizing these people are the ones who should really feel sorry for themselves and I should just get over it. That's enough of that.

I wish that Cy would come over with a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle so I can feel like I did something today. Read this, CY!!!

When did MTV become a sex-crazed teenager reality show bonanza????? I'm currently watching a show called "SEX...With Mom and Dad" about overly-sexed teens having inappropriate sex conversations with their parents moderated by Dr. Drew AND I just saw a preview for a show called "16 and Pregnant". What the hell is going on here? Is this disturbing to anyone but me? When Jeff comes home to take care of me and my sickness I'm going to let him know that cable television is going out the door as soon as we have kids who can talk.

    Possum Showdown

Time for a very random post...

I'm sure that we have all heard that possums play dead when accosted by a predator. Well, it's true. I know from experience now. I was walking down Washington Avenue in front of my apartment and I saw something small and white darting around behind the flowers. Oh crap, a rat! was the thought that flew into my mind. I have had a strange and inexplicable fear of seeing a rat for the last several weeks, perhaps due to my current reading choice of Black Death history. Then it froze. That is certainly un-rat-like behavior, I said to myself. In my experience rats scurry. I froze and assessed the situation, concluding that he was more than likely a possum. After a few seconds, I decided to test his ability to stick to the "dead plan" and took a few steps toward him. I was about four feet away and he refused to move a muscle. We stayed in that standoff for at least five minutes. I was impressed by his tenacity, so I decided to cut the little guy a break and not harass him any further.

Pippin is above me on the back of the couch snoring away.

I've been thinking lately that because it's too late to become world-class awesome at anything, I am just going to try to learn a little about everything. I took guitar lessons earlier this spring and I started tennis lessons today. As I was sitting in the tennis orientation, looking around at the other students, I started to wonder: Does tennis breed pretentiousness or do pretentious people gravitate toward tennis. Obviously, I know people who play tennis who are not obnoxious or pretentious, so this is not an observation about all tennis players (this means you, Erika). We shall see...updates to follow.

  • I have officially chosen my 2008 theme song! I like to choose theme songs for myself every year to represent my overall state of mind. This is my third official theme song.

2006- "Fallen" by Sarah McLachlan (obviously, I was a little troubled)

2007- "Taking the Long Way" by the Dixie Chicks (getting better)

    And now, Kathleen's Theme 2008:

    "Say" by John Mayer

Take out of your wasted honor
    Every little past frustration
Take all your so called problems
    Better put 'em in quotations

Say what you need to say (x7)
Say what you need to say...

Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head
Living out the same old moment
Knowing you'd be better off instead

    If you could only
Say what you need to say (x7)
Say what you need to say...

    Have no fear
    For giving in
    Have no fear
    For getting over
You better know that in the end
It's better to say too much
Then never to say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
    And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open... wide...

Say what you need to say (x7)
    Say what you need to
    Say what you need to
Say what you need to say...

I was angling for a tennis racket at a recent trip to Sports Authority. As a peace offering for a fight, the cause of which I no longer remember, Jeff purchased one for me. And while I haven't yet signed up for any lessons, I have found other uses for my racket, including but not limited to, irritating cats (pictured below) and swatting mischievous roommates in the behind.
